I was born in Northern Ontario of mixed French-Métis-Algonquin ancestry. Throughout my lifetime as a self-taught artist, I continuously refined my skills by developing and experimenting with various creative techniques and methods. I was blessed with an innate talent that I perfected by drawing pencil sketches, ink, charcoal, pastels and later attempted wood burning, as well as oil painting. My preferred medium soon became painting with acrylics, with traditional paint brushes and also using an airbrush.
My grandmothers showed their artistic abilities - one was a fine artist (oil paintings); the other, an adept seamstress. At the age of 15, I won an art contest and received art courses (distance education) with the Art Instruction School of Minneapolis, Minnesota USA. I also developed other musical talents (pianist) and achieved numerous awards of excellence with the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and many Kiwanis festivals. Later, I continued some studies in visual arts and later in graphic design and new media at Algonquin College in Ottawa.
For some time, I hosted a televised arts & crafts program for Rogers' Ottawa Cablevision. Later, as a professional artist, I exhibited my works in local boutiques, galleries, as well as at juried competitions and numerous municipal events. I set myself apart from other contemporary artists; my style being unique, original and at times too traditional for the modern art of our times.I am at ease developing and creating art in my own preferred environment – my studio is set amongst the seclusion of a remote mountainous area, surrounded by nature, helping me find the peace and relaxation I enjoy, which enhances my abilities as a true, independent artist.
Many of my works originate from the subjects that I have photographed. My mediums vary and I test other abilities through craftwork: weaving to create elaborate dreamcatchers, medicine wheels and other native and aboriginal creations (regalia, leather garments, unique custom beadwork, chokers, etc.). I am amazed at what I produce, as everything seems so natural and it comes from deep within me.
I fashion my pieces of jewelry from natural gems, crystals and semi-precious stones, as well as using bone, quills, shells, silver, metals, glass beads and wood pieces. Most of the materials I use in my artwork originate from Mother Earth: the feathers, claws, bones and fur I use in my creations come mostly from recycled resources, to show respect for the animals that live on through my art. Nothing is wasted and every piece serves a purpose.I now pass these cherished traditions, values and talent to my family… at the same time, sharing with you and with those who will take pleasure in my art and creations …
